Juneteenth Celebration Festival
In the mood for a change of scenery? A taste of heritage? Take a day trip about an hour and a half from DC to Darlington, MD to experience the Juneteenth Celebration Festival. There will be dancing, singing, animals, storytelling, food vendors and more. Come join us in this celebration of a pivotal point in our history. Cool Off at Spray Parks around DC!
After a cool spring, DC temperatures are on the rise. Escape the heat by cooling off at one of the spray parks found all around DC. DC Parks and Recreation says, "DPR Spray Parks are small outdoor parks equipped with kid-friendly fountains that are perfect for splashing around and escaping the summer heat. There is at least one spray park in every Ward of the District. All spray parks are open from 10am to 8pm daily through Labor Day, Monday, September 3, 2018."

Three suggested hikes are:
- "Rapids Bridge Hike" – t2-mile hike that parallels the scenic whitewater section of Rock Creek.
- The "Milkhouse Ford Hike" – 1.75-mile hike that heads past Fort DeRussy, dating from the Civil War.
- The "Rock Creek Ramble" – 3.1-mile hike that parallels the whitewater section of the creek.

Free Jazz Concerts Every Summer Friday
This summer, you can enjoy a free jazz concert every Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the National Gallery Sculpture Garden. The first concert is Friday, May 18, and there will be a concert every Friday, unless there is rain that day, until August 24. This is a great event for the whole family! Bring a picnic and a blanket so you can get comfortable. We suggest getting to the Sculpture Garden before 5:00 to make sure you get a good spot.
